Animal cruelty ads

Image
Recent Animal Cruelty posters/Ad campaigns  These are a mixture of current and recent animal cruelty posters and ad campaigns that i feel are either very clever or just well crafted. I think for a successful poster/ad campaign it needs to be simple and clear but impactful and hard hitting.  Ideas:  As you can see from the statistic below, dogs are the most popular household pet in the UK. I am going to focus the majority of my poster campaign around dogs as i feel this would hit a wider audience. If all goes well i will try with cats but from past experience dogs have always been easier to photograph and this is another reason why i will be focusing on dogs.  www.statista.com  - I want to create a visually impactful poster series clearly showing the animal abuse/cruelty that is   present this day in age. Some people may find the images distressing but i want them to be shocking enough to make the viewer really step b...

D&AD awards brief

Image
Initial thoughts on the brief:  I chose this brief as it was one that i could really put a personal stamp on. I felt that the other briefs were restricting and i wanted to do something which i was passionate about and this brief allows that as i can choose a cause close to me.  Causes that spring to mind:   Animal Cruelty/Abuse   Poaching Global Warming Stereotyping  Tattoos in the workplace  I have chosen animal cruelty. I feel that animal cruelty/abuse is such an important topic but i need to be careful not to replicate any previous designs as it is a topic which gets done so often but it is a topic I'm so passionate about that i cannot not do it.

designs in situ

Image
Below are the finished chosen designs in situ.  i feel all these designs work really well and communicate exactly what i wanted. I feel they will appeal to my target audience instantly and will grab their attention as they are all unique, detailed but bold and eye catching at the same time. the colours are something which i was sceptical about at first as i normally work in just black and white but i feel they add another level to the designs and really make them pop.

rendered designs

Image
Below are the finished rendered designs. i wanted to keep with an occult and sophisticated horror theme throughout the designs. Im really happy with the outcomes and i feel because i was really good at managing my time for this brief i was able to do a lot more. I am proud of the finish on all designs but if i had a little more time i may have explored other areas bar the tattoo style/occult and sophisticated horror.  this design i changed a bit from the drawing as it didn't work well land although it looks better now i still feel it looked better on paper than on screen.  I'm really happy with this gin reaper design and after scrapping the barbed wire it worked a whole lot better as i could make the reaper bigger and fill more of the space up. also by making it coloured it help it stand out from the background.  this survival mode design was inspired by old animal books which contain small illustrative sketches of the animals and an artist ...

finished sketches/designs

Image
Below are finished sketches ready to go onto the computer and get finished.  these designs were of a range of birds from ravens to crows and eagles and i wanted to create a label with either a raven or crow as they can symbolise death and this fitted into an occult theme which i was interested in pursuing.  again sticking with the occult them i designed a skull for a raven to stand upon and also experimented with the typeface for that label. when drawing birds i thought of the plague doctors and thought that would again fit into the occult/horror them. also designed a antelope head which i thought could work well on a label as a line drawing as animals are popular on alcohol labels.  again looking into the gin reaper idea i decided to add the wire to the curved blade design and also drew a creepy fortune teller.  taking that fortune teller design further i added in roses, a body, satan's heads and the crystal ball as i fe...

development sketches of ideas

Image
Below are some initial idea sketches: This design i feel would work for a craft beer e.g. 'Bowa Beer' but for a spirit or wine i don't think it would suit. This initial design was inspired flash tattoo drawings and i wanted to encompass a living and a dead aspect, hence the skull and the snake.   this design was a follow on from the Bowa Beer and instead of the skull i added a sword and changed to a vodka, naming it Venom Vodka as i was going for an aggressive and mean feel.  this design i wanted to be called poison as i wanted it to be a very strong and lethal spirit for young adults. the design i don't think would work for a label but the concept was to create a label with a sense of danger.   this wasn't a finished design but i was drawing skulls to try and get a feel for the style i wanted to go in. this particular skull i thought could have elements coming out of the open hole. After these initial concepts I wanted to t...
